Child Support

Child support covers the legal obligation of a noncustodial parent to pay a proportionate share of a child’s expenses to the custodial parent after a divorce or dissolution. Procedures and guidelines for the determination and calculation of child’s support are governed by state law. Legal issues include the application of guidelines, determination of imputed income (estimated income for a nonworking parent) and arrearages (unpaid child support) and collection, tax treatment, enforcement, modification or termination of child support awards.
